Daily Incident Report for Monday, November 3, 2014

**INCIDENTS**

 

Crash – Fatality – On November 1st at 9:53AM, investigators from the Crash Investigation Unit responded to the area of Springwoods Dr and Old Bridge Rd in Woodbridge (22192) to investigate a single vehicle crash. The investigation revealed that the driver of a 2008 Chrysler PT Cruiser was traveling southbound on Springwoods Dr approaching Old Bridge Rd. The driver is believed to have suffered a medical emergency which caused the vehicle to leave the roadway and cross into the median. The vehicle continued until it struck a tree and roll onto its roof. The driver, and only occupant, was pronounced dead at the scene. No other vehicles were involved in the crash. An autopsy showed that the driver likely died as a result of injuries sustained during the crash.

Identified:

The driver of the 2008 Chrysler PT Cruiser was identified as Helen C. CAPORALETTI, 87, of Woodbridge

 

Abduction | Strangulation | Domestic Assault & Battery – On November 3rd at 2:15AM, officers responded to investigate a domestic assault which was reported to have occurred at a residence located in the 13500 block of Pamela Ct in Woodbridge (22193) on October 25th. The victim, a 34 year old woman of Woodbridge, reported to police that she and the accused, a known acquaintance, were involved in a verbal altercation which escalated. During the encounter, the accused assaulted the victim and refused to let her leave the bedroom area of the home. At one point, the accused choke the victim. The parties eventually separated. Minor injuries were reported. Following the investigation, officers obtained warrants for his arrest.

Described as black male, 5’9”, 185lbs with a medium build, dark complexion, black shoulder length dreadlocks and brown eyes

Wanted for abduction, strangulation and domestic assault & battery

                                                                                             

Attempted Strong Armed Robbery – On October 31st at 5:10PM, officers responded to the 16600 block of Reservoir Lp in Dumfries (22026) to investigate a robbery. The victim, a 17 year old male juvenile of Dumfries, reported to police that he was riding his bicycle in the above area when he approached two unknown female suspects. One of the suspects knocked the victim off his bike and attempted to take it. The victim was eventually able to get back on the bike and get away. No injuries were reported.

Suspect Descriptions:

Black female, between 16 & 19 years of age, 5’11”, 119lbs with a thin build, medium complexion, shoulder length brown hair and brown eyes

Last seen wearing a pink sweater with “PINK” on the front and black shorts

 

White female, between 16 & 17 years of age, 150lbs with a medium build, shoulder length brown hair and glasses

No clothing description reported

 

Residential Burglary – On November 2nd at 7:56PM, officers responded to a residence located in the 9700 block of Cheshire Ridge Cir in Manassas (20110) to investigate a burglary. The homeowner reported to police that the burglary occurred between 11:30AM and 7:30PM. The investigation revealed that there were no signs of forced entry into the home. Entry is believed to have been made through a basement level window. A gaming console, baseball hats and several watches were reported missing.

 

Residential Burglary – On October 31st at 6:28PM, officers responded to a residence located in the 12900 block of Luca Station Way in Woodbridge (22192) to investigate a burglary. The homeowner reported to police that the burglary occurred between 8:30AM and 6:28PM. The investigation revealed that entry was made into the home through a window which was broken out. A pair of earrings was reported missing.

 

Commercial Burglary – On October 31st at 9:49AM, officers responded to the Price Rite located at 2042 Daniel Stuart Sq in Woodbridge (22191) to investigate a burglary. Employees reported to police that the burglary occurred between 11:20PM and 11:40PM on October 30th. The investigation revealed that there were no signs of forced entry into the business. Entry is believed to have been made through an open rear bay door. An undisclosed amount of money was reported missing.

 

Attempted Residential Burglary – On November 1st at 10:34AM, officers responded to an apartment located in the 12000 block of Coverstone Hill Cir in Manassas (20109) to investigate an attempted burglary. The resident of the apartment reported to police that at around 3:00AM, she woke to a noise coming from the rear of the home. No suspect was seen. Later in the day, the resident discovered pry marks on a rear sliding glass door. No entry was made into the residence and no property was reported missing.

 

**ARRESTS**

 

Commercial Burglary – On November 2nd at 4:19AM, officers responded to The Car Store located at 17539 Jefferson Davis Hwy in Dumfries (22026) to investigate a burglary in progress. The store manager reported to police that he was sleeping inside the business and woke to an unknown man rummaging through the front desk area. The manager confronted the man who then left on foot. No property was reported missing. Responding officers located the suspect in the area of Jefferson Davis Hwy and Dumfries Rd where he was identified as the accused and detained without incident. Officers further determined the man was under the influence of alcohol. Following the investigation, the accused was arrested.

Arrested on November 2nd:

Oscar Oswaldo MELENDEZ, 25, of 8414 Huerta Ct, #168 in Alexandria

Charged with burglary and public intoxication

Court date: December 4, 2014 | Bond: $5,000 secured
